What Can't AI do?
1. Artificial Intelligence cannot be trusted to do things without human review to check for error. I feel as though the accuracy of the things that AI does is not something that is not accounted for enough when people speak about its use and development in the future. While the things it can do now is extraordinary I feel we still have a long way to go before it is something that can be or should be widely used within our technological systems. When I see many companies adoption of AI for various roles it makes me wonder how much of it is going to end up benefiting the consumer in the long run. While I feel this is all true now with the amount of attention going into development currently the advancements could certainly negate these concerns and allow for a wider spread of uses for AI. I feel as if I sound similar to the early speculators of the internet who did not believe it would become as essential as it is today for not only business, but for everything.
2. Having AI do math problems or a math test is something else I suspect might trip it up. I have heard that you are better suited using a calculator than AI to try and help solve math problems, because the AI is wrong sometimes and math is definitive with its answers. Although this is true I could see others bringing up that the AI might to do better than the average human and make less mistakes. I think this could be the case, but my worry with AI is that if we run into it too fast before the technology is advanced enough and start letting it serve an essential function within our society the tiny mistakes will eventually become common place. As you mentioned before it does not do great with pulling up information on specific people, and that makes me wonder how it may do on a history test as well. Certainly when getting into complex areas of each of these subject I’m sure that AI will struggle.
3. Being able to successfully do therapy is something that I do not think AI will ever be able to do. One of the main requirements of a therapist is being able to express empathy to the person that you are counseling. The client needs to feel comfortable sharing personal details and needs to feel heard and understood when they do so. While an AI might be able to express empathy I feel as though any human would be able to see through this as everyone knows an AI cannot express emotions. Unless AI reaches a human level of intelligence with the ability to express believable human emotions I do not think this is something that can be left in the care of a computer.
